The class, titled “Communicating with Stakeholders,” took place in Nijverdal at Podozorg-NL’s new production site and provided valuable insights and practical exercises to improve participants’ communication skills.

Several important topics were covered during the class, including:

  • Stakeholder Identification and Categorization: Participants learned how to identify internal and external stakeholders and assess their importance and influence.
  • Verbal and nonverbal communication: Attention was paid to both verbal communication, such as setting boundaries and being empathetic, and nonverbal communication, such as body language and facial expressions.
  • Listening Skills: The LSD (Listening, Summarizing, Questioning) method was introduced to help participants listen and communicate more effectively.
  • Practical exercises: Participants participated in several exercises to improve their communication skills in realistic scenarios.

Diana Smeets emphasized the importance of effective communication in podiatry practice and how this can contribute to better patient care and collaboration with other healthcare providers. The class was highly appreciated by the participants, who indicated that the knowledge and skills gained are immediately applicable in their daily practice.
